The present paper is a review of Fondamenti di glottodidattica. Apprendere e insegnare le lingue oggi [Fundamentals of language teaching: Learning and teaching languages today], edited by Marina Chini and Cristina Bosisio and published by Carocci (Rome, Italy) in 2014. The volume is aimed at prospective and in-service teachers of foreign languages. The volume consists of six chapters that cover: the historical and epistemological development of language teaching as a discipline; fundamental concepts such as L1 acquisition and L2 acquisition and learning; components of linguistic education; theories of L2 teaching; evaluation and assessment of competencies; and finally, teacher education. The bibliography is comprehensive and up-to-date on the topics featured in each chapter.
