Writing with “Academic Style”: theoretical considerations and preliminary findings on the new frontiers of EAP

Abstract

Negli ultimi decenni la ricerca sull'inglese per scopi accademici (EAP, sigla in inglese) si è estesa relativamente a forme, metodi e materiali di insegnamento e apprendimento.. La globalizzazione della condivisione delle conoscenze e della comunicazione all'interno della comunità accademica, nonché l'inclusione di istituti di istruzione superiore e di ricerca marginati hanno portato a una continua evoluzione di molti termini relativi all’EAP. Tuttavia, esistono aree ancora poco esplorate della ricerca e della pratica EAP, tra cui quella dello "stile accademico", quale necessaria integrazione dell'insegnamento e della pratica della scrittura EAP e accademica. Lo studio presenta una ricerca pilota che consiste nell'analisi qualitativa dettagliata di una raccolta di abstract di un seminario di dottorato sulla (auto)correzione dello stile accademico. Utilizzando un quadro metodologico che combina la stilistica, l'analisi degli errori e la categorizzazione di specifiche "aree di interesse", lo studio evidenzia gli errori stilistici rilevanti nella scrittura accademica e trae conclusioni sui requisiti e le implicazioni dell'introduzione dello stile accademico nell'EAP.

Roxanne Barbara Doerr (PhD) è una ricercatrice di Lingua e linguistica inglese presso il Dipartimento di Economia e Management dell’Università di Brescia (Italia). Le sue aree di ricerca comprendono l’inglese per scopi specifici e accademici, il linguaggio militare, l’insegnamento e l’apprendimento del linguaggio militare, le comunità discorsiva online, l’uso dei corpora negli studi sul discorso, la stilistica dei corpora. Le sue pubblicazioni più recenti includono il libro Academic Style Proofreading: an Introduction (Peter Lang Group AG, 2023) e articoli sulle aree di ricerca precedentemente menzionatei n riviste e volumi nazionali ed internazionali con revisione tra pari.
