Abstract

Audiovisual comprehension tasks for language learning or testing require the student to carry out four actions simultaneously: listening, viewing, reading, and writing. This paper is part of a larger research project that explores the use of audiovisual comprehension tasks with questions superimposed onto images in the form of subtitles and synchronized with the relevant audiovisual fragments. In this convergent mixed methods study, five university professors of Spanish as a foreign language offered feedback on this methodology. A non-probabilistic sampling was used. The instruments consisted of two audiovisual comprehension activities and a questionnaire. Overall, the results indicated agreement among the professors that embedded questions helped learners. The professors specified how these questions helped learners and suggested an appropriate level for use of this technique.
