Abstract

This review presents the book Metodi e strumenti per l’insegnamento e apprendimento dell’italiano (Methods and tools for teaching and learning Italian), by Bertocchi Daniela, Ravizza Gabriella, and Rovida Letizia, published by EdiSES in Naples in 2014. The book, written for both prospective and experienced teachers of Italian, combines theory and practice in four chapters. It addresses basic concepts such as linguistic education, metalinguistic reflection, competencies, and abilities, drawing in particular on Italian and international surveys on students’ reading competence. The book also provides an annotated webography and extensive bibliographic references on the topics covered within each chapter.

Author Biography

Nicoletta Santeusanio, Università per Stranieri di Perugia

Nicoletta Santeusanio after the specialization school in Teaching Italian as a second language at the Università per Stranieri di Perugia, earned a doctorate in Linguistics and teaching Italian to speakers of other languages at the Università per Stranieri di Siena, both in Italy. She taught at the Romanisches Seminar of Universität zu Köln in Cologne, Germany, as lecturer of Italian language and culture for several years. She currently works at the Università per Stranieri di Perugia teaching courses of Italian language and culture, courses of training and professional development for teachers of Italian as L2/FL both in Italy and abroad. Within the master’s degree program in Teaching Italian as a language different from L1 she coordinates the activities of the Practicum and tutors students. For the Centro per la Valutazione e le Certificazioni Linguistiche (Center for linguistic assessment and certification) of the same university, she coordinates promotion activities, composition, administering, marking, and assessment of the tests of the Certificate for teaching Italian as a foreign language (Certificazione in Didattica dell’Italiano Lingua Straniera - DILS-PG). She published several articles about the use of authentic texts in Italian language courses, popular phenomena in today’s Italian language, teachers’ preparation, and DILS-PG language teaching certificate. She also authored handbooks of Italian for speakers of other languages.
