Language learning using XR. Gen Z and new acquisitional paradigms

Abstract

L’articolo esplora l’uso della realtà estesa (XR) nell’apprendimento linguistico, con riferimento alla Generazione Z (Gen Z) e ai suoi bisogni educativi. Qui si evidenzia il potenziale dell’XR per la sperimentazione didattica in linea con i profili di apprendimento della Gen Z, i cui membri tendono a preferire ambienti di apprendimento interattivi, esperienziali e basati sull’uso delle tecnologie. La XR, che comprende realtà virtuale, aumentata e mista, offre ambienti immersivi e ricchi di elementi contestuali, in grado di supportare l’uso della lingua in contesti autentici e di favorire l’interesse e la motivazione; consente anche la pratica della lingua in un ambiente protetto, contribuendo a ridurre l’ansia linguistica. L’integrazione della XR nell’insegnamento solleva criticità legate a costi, accessibilità, competenze digitali, carico cognitivo e questioni etiche. L’articolo evidenzia, dunque, l’opportunità di allineare le attività linguistiche basate su XR a caratteristiche, bisogni e criticità di apprendenti della Gen Z, con l’obiettivo di contribuire a una comprensione più contestualizzata e critica del loro ruolo nella didattica linguistica.

Mariasophia Falcone, University of Bergamo

Mariasophia Falcone è docente a contratto di Lingua inglese presso l’Università di Bergamo, dove in precedenza è stata assegnista di ricerca lavorando sulle applicazioni di realtà estesa e l’insegnamento dell’inglese per scopi specifici. Ha conseguito un dottorato di ricerca in Lingua inglese presso l’Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia. I suoi interessi di ricerca includono la linguistica dei corpora e l’analisi del discorso, con particolare attenzione ai contesti digitali, alla sostenibilità e all’uso delle tecnologie XR nell’apprendimento e nell’insegnamento delle lingue.

Patrizia Anesa è Professoressa Associata di Lingua Inglese, Linguistica e Traduzione presso l’Università di Bergamo. È membro del Centro di Ricerca sulle Lingue Speciali (CERLIS) e Associate Editor del progetto IDEA (International Dialects of English Archive). Attualmente si occupa dell’uso della Realtà Estesa nell’apprendimento e nella formazione linguistica per l’ESP ed è Principal Investigator del progetto PRIN “Enhancing ESP competence in professional and educational contexts via augmented reality”, 2023-2026. Il suo volume “Lexical Innovation in World Englishes: Cross-Fertilization and Evolving Paradigms” (Routledge, 2019) ha ricevuto l'ESSE Book Prize 2020 (European Society for the Study of English) e l'AIA Honourable mention (2022).
